In the lands of Perugino

(Wines revealed by harmonious landscapes: Città della Pieve, Panicale, Paciano, and Piegaro. Precious gems that inspired the famous painter Pietro Vannucci, known as "Perugino").

The environmental harmony of the territory of the Trasimeno, its gently rolling hills, quiet lake surface, olive trees, grapevines, oak trees, towers, castles and abbeys inspired one of the greatest interpreters of this territory: Pietro Vannucci, known as "Perugino", the artist who definitively delivered it to art history and literature.

In order to become aware of this poetic dimension in which art and nature flow, as if by osmosis, it is necessary to take that still-somewhat-secret itinerary, which leads from Città della Pieve to Paciano, Panicale, and Fontignano, marked by works by Perugino and his school.

It is a particularly sentimental itinerary, being set in that landscape of gentle hills with a view of the lake and beyond, past that large area of the Valdichiana opening toward the horizon.

The itinerary makes it possible to become familiar with the salient moments of the life and work of Perugino, for example "The Adoration of the Magi" of the Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi in Città della Pieve, and the "Martyrdom of St. Sebastian" in Panicale.
