(The libations at the court of Ascanio. A territory historically contested by Umbria and Tuscany at the foot of the stronghold of Castiglione del Lago)

The commune of Perugia, in addition to managing the fishing in the lake, worked for the agricultural exploitation of the surrounding territory: productivity increased both for wheat and for the grapevine.

Ascanio Della Corgna, a military man and architect, is to be credited with the building of a splendid residence designed by his friend and fellow architect Galeazzo Alessi, and frescoed with admirable pictorial decorations by Tuscan artist Niccolò Circignani, called "Il Pomarancio”.

The close distance between the Palazzo and the Rocca del Leone stronghold, united by an atmospheric link, endows the whole picture with a typically feudal nature.
